Hello, and welcome to my practice. My name is KC Cohen. I am a New York State licensed therapist, coach, and consultant working with children, adolescents, adults, and parents across the lifespan.
My approach is thoughtful, collaborative, and deeply attuned -- grounded in the belief that meaningful change emerges through insight, reflection, and supportive collaboration. My approach is both compassionate and practical, helping clients better understand themselves while developing the skills needed to navigate life’s challenges with greater clarity and resilience.
Prior to entering private practice full tine, I spent nearly two decades in independent schools as Director of Health and Wellness, middle and upper school counselor, and a member of the admissions teams at Riverdale Country School and The Ethical Culture Fieldston School. This work provided an intimate understanding of the developmental, academic, and social demands facing children, adolescents, and families in high-performing environments, as well as the complex transitions of young adulthood.
My work is grounded in a deep respect for each client’s individuality, strengths, and lived experience. Together, we will clarify priorities, identify obstacles, and define meaningful, achievable goals. I integrate insight-oriented exploration with practical, evidence-based strategies so that our work is both reflective and forward-moving.
Each session is designed to support progress, strengthen resilience, and deepen your capacity to navigate competing life demands, difficult relationships, life transitions, and other stressors with confidence and clarity. My aim is not only to help you to alleviate distress, but also to empower your development of a stronger, more grounded sense of self — one that allows you to live with greater intention, balance, and emotional freedom.
More about me: I am a native NYCer, avid runner, coffee lover, deep thinker, and mom of one amazing (and sometimes challenging), daughter.

Parenting Work
Parenting kids and teens is no easy task. If you’re struggling to support your child or looking to parent (or co-parent) with more confidence and ease, I am here to guide you. Together, we will find approaches that are realistic for your family, and aligned with your values and goals. My aim is to help you to strengthen your communication with your child, co-parent with greater alignment, and ultimately create a home with more calm and harmony.
I have led numerous groups for children and adolescents from divorced families, as well as for those navigating addiction and substance use concerns. With extensive experience working with parents—both in group settings and individually—I bring a nuanced understanding of family systems to the work I do with each family.
I work with kids, adolescents, and families to help them prepare for the admission process and entry into independent middle and high schools. Combining my background in mental health and admissions, along with my experience working with new students and families, I help clients to examine their goals in these key transitions, and make choices from a place of strength and clarity.
I offer a range of services to assist clients in navigating the competitive admissions process. This includes reviewing application materials, helping clients refine their personal narratives, conducting mock interviews to prepare you thoroughly, and guiding your decision making process. I provide comprehensive support and guidance, ensuring each student and family not only stand out in their application and interviews, but also successfully transition into their new school community.
Consulting
I provide consultations and conduct workshops for middle and high school students, faculty, and parents about substance use and abuse, consent and healthy relationships, and the mental health and social concerns that often accompany transitioning to high school and to college.
I collaborates with a variety of independent schools in the NYC area, and continues to work closely with many of them. In 2023, I launched the NY-Based Independent School Health and Wellness Educators Group which is comprised of over 40 schools in and around NYC.

Approach
My clinical work is informed by my study of various psychodynamic and behavioral modalities. I am is trained in cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based interventions, and short-term psychodynamic therapies.
I tailor my approach to best meet the unique needs of each client, and focus on practical, actionable strategies to empower those with whom I work to make meaningful progress toward their personal and professional goals.
Operating within a wide network of related professionals including psychiatrists, substance abuse, trauma, and eating disorder specialists, as well as learning specialists, and those with expertise working with LGBTQAI+ communities, I offer comprehensive services that meet the individual needs of clients and their families.
